Every installation will be headed by a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP)-qualified installer who will lead your project. Formed as the offshoot from a long-standing general contracting business, the firm also draws on that background in addition to rigorous solar training. Underwood Solar Future is a registered minority-owned business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The firm is fully bonded and insured.

Meet the Owner

Introducing the owner of Underwood Solar Future LLC!

Fred Underwood is the founder of Underwood Solar Future LLC a solar energy company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The company specializes in the design and installation of solar systems both commercial and residential. Fred’s unique blend of technical skills, more than two decades of military discipline, and team management experiences have prepared him for his leadership today.

Fred completed three years of electronics and two years of auto mechanics in high school. These experiences ignited Fred’s interest in solar energy. Underwood Solar Future is a green, clean energy company offering an ecological alternative to coal electricity.

Upon graduating from high school, Fred joined the U.S. Army Reserves where he served for three years. Once honorably discharged, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four and a half years and was stationed at Camp Pendelton in California. His tours of duty include Japan, Korea, and the Gulf War. During his service with the U.S. Marine Corps, Fred was a tank technician. Currently Fred is in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as an air ground equipment technician. Fred has also been deployed to Turkey in 2005 and Mannus in 2008 (Operation Enduring Freedom).

In Fred’s civilian life, he was a McDonald’s corporate manager for five years. While a student at the University of Maryland, Fred started Underwood Property Improvements, a general contracting business. Realizing the state of the economy, Fred has been a city of Pittsburgh fire fighter since 2001.
